4minute's "Is it Poppin'?" deemed unfit for broadcast by KBS

4minute's upcoming track "Is It Poppin?" has been deemed unfit for broadcast by KBS.

Apparently, the network had a problem with the English word "ass" in the song's lyrics. "Is It Poppin?", by Brave Brothers, is a hip hop dance track about a girl who's upset with her boyfriend who loves to party.

4minute will be removing "ass" from the lyrics in order to re-submit the song for review.

To accusations that the pair were being especially touchy while together in an airplane, Lee Joon explained, "It's true that we sat next to each other on the plane coming back after we filmed the MV. 4minute will be making a comeback with ‘Is it Poppin’ in late June.
Cube Entertainment spoke to Newsen on the 21st June, “4minute will be releasing yet another Brave Brothers-collaborated digital single on the 28th, titled ‘Is it Poppin’ on various music sites. It’s a song that involves a love story. They have completed the recordings and MV shoot for the new song recently”, he revealed.
Regarding 4minute’s ‘Is it Poppin’ concept, he explained, “It’s neither a sexy or charismatic concept, but a cute concept – a hip hop dance song that goes well with the summer feel. It is expected that this comeback will be continuing ‘What’s Your Name’s charms.”
4minute had made their comeback with ‘What’s Your Name’ in April 26th. Not long after its release, the song swept #1 spots on various real-time charts. Despite the 4~5 weeks of promotion, the song remained at #1 on weekly charts, showing the power of a strong idol group.
Most of the girl groups go with the sexy concept recently. Concluding ‘What’s Your Name’ promotions early this month brought about regrets among fans. However, 4minute will soon be releasing yet another new song on the 28th, 3 weeks after their promotions ended. Previously, 4minute who release only an album each year brings a different uniqueness with each of their release.
A 4minute representatives expressed, “‘Is it Poppin’ is a song that suits very well with the summer atmosphere. Lately, 4minute have been receiving loves and thanks from fans through ‘What’s Your Name’ activities. Moreover, the results was great. Although they have already made their comeback, there is a growing heart for 4minute to show fans a good song and different image that suits to the timing.”
4minute have celebrated their 4th anniversary on June 18th. In order to repay fans’ love, 4minute will be making a comeback just 3 weeks after their previous promotions. 4minute Set To Go Head-To-Head With 2NE1 On The K-pop Charts!

Hot on the heels of 2NE1′s comeback announcement comes news that 4minute may be returning with new music as early as the end of this month. According to reports, 4minute’s already filmed a music video for their new single, and are just in the process of finalizing their official comeback date, which is said to be late June. They’re also planning to retain a similar concept to the one they sported during their recent “What’s Your Name?” promotions, which saw the group tone down their fierce image for a more fun and fashionable style.

If 4minute sticks to a late June comeback, or even an early July one, they’ll go head-to-head with 2NE1, who will be back early next month with their first new single in almost a year.

If we were taking bets on a 4minute Vs. 2NE1 chart battle a year ago, 2NE1 coming out on top would’ve been a no-brainer. But a lot has changed in the past six months. 4minute demolished K-pop competitors, T-ara N4 and SECRET, in May with “What’s Your Name?,” which is currently one of the biggest singles of the year and is still ranking in the top ten of the official GAON chart. Meanwhile, 2NE1′s CL flopped with her solo effort, “The Baddest Female,” which was poorly-received by K-pop fans and tanked on the charts. 4minute also has a lot of positive buzz right now thanks to the very recent success of “What’s Your Name?,” whereas 2NE1′s just coming off of CL’s dud solo debut and have released only one single as a group in Korea in the span of almost two years.

Anyway, besides each other, both 4minute and 2NE1 have a lot of other competition to worry about right now. Not only is SISTAR dominating with the release of their sophomore album, late June will see highly-anticipated comebacks from Girl’s Day and Roy Kim, while July will see the return of rising solo superstars, Ailee and John Park. Sunny Hill also just released a new album today (which looks like it’s going to do quite well), and Dal Shabet and B.A.P will be back soon, which will further crowd the charts.

Outside of SISTAR, who do you think will rule the Summer comeback rush?

4minute ‘What’s Your Name?’ is the Hit song for first half year

Although girl group 4minute’s ‘What’s Your Name’ has passed a month and a half after it’s release, it seems that the longer time passes, the longer they will secured themselves with the ‘Steady Seller’ position.

Released in the end of April, 4minute’s ‘What’s Your Name’ is currently ranked number 9 on Melon Chart (on the 14th July), showing its long-run power on the chart.

Despite releases from Lee Hyori, ShinHwa, CL, Sistar, Ivy, After School and many more popular singers in the time period between May and June, 4minute managed to show their steady popularity on the charts, which brings a deeper meaning to this success. In fact, songs that are included in the top 10 Melon charts, are from Sistar, After School, Ivy and more whose songs were released not more than 2 weeks.

4minute’s ‘What’s Your Name’ is the only song that stays on the chart for more than a month since its release in April. In particular, ‘What’s Your Name’ has swept number 1′s on various music programs, even broadcast promotional activities were in a crazy state. They have continuously proved the strength of their song. Words of mouth from representatives in the industry commented, “Although there are continuous competitions between girl groups , 4minute’s ‘What’s Your Name?’ have already confirmed its position as the hit song for the first half year”.

130611 4minute’s magic that addicts fans for 50 days

4minute has been burning hot for the past 45 days. Even now, 4minute’s charting positions have been more than amazing. From facing off PSY and Roy Kim in the beginning to more recently Lee Hyori and CL, 4minute has been up against fierce competition. Their longevity on the charts has caused 4minute’s level to rise among girl groups.
Through eccentric marketing, the public has slowly gotten addicted. From bars to clubs, whenever you step onto the streets, you can hear people singing along to 4minute’s latest title track “What’s Your Name?”, showing the epidemic spread of the new trend.
Before the sale of 4minute’s new mini album, posters were put up in various places across cities with the phrase, “What’s Your Name?” With no explanation given, these mysterious teasers raised the curiosity of people who passed by. When people realized it was related to 4minute once their mini album released, the title of the song had already been imprinted into the everyone’s mind.
The partnership with a popular game also played a huge role. 4minute surprisingly appeared as characters in smartphone SNS games and “What’s Your Name?” would stream on the phone while the game was loading. From this, millions of people were exposed to 4minute’s new song every day. 4minute was able to gain much from their promotions without special price cuts or promotional rates, showing the effectiveness of the strategy that their agency thought of.
The icon of 4minute is Hyunah. Hyunah’s image is one of extreme sexiness, but 4minute was able to break this image. 4minute was able to find a balance between all five members without resorting to a formulaic sexiness and showcased all the charms of their members. The overall feel of the group was lively and cute, while still retaining parts of their sexiness during the performances.
4minute was also able to attract many new fans through unit promotions before promoting as a group. This year, Jiyoon and Gayoon promoted as a subunit named 2YOON. The most important effect of the unit promotions were that awareness of the members increased, which translated into more interest in 4minute as a whole.
4minute was able to achieve an all-kill after releasing their new mini album on major online charts. However, matched against the unrelenting force of PSY’s “Gentlemen” and the strong breakthrough of Roy Kim’s “Spring Spring Spring”, 4minute seemed to be at a disadvantage. To make matters worse, Hyunah was admitted into a hospital due to fatigue in the middle of promotions. Meanwhile, strong competitors such as 2PM, 4men, Lee Hyori, and CL entered the charts at once.
The force of 4minute’s power was shown during this time. 4minute was able to rise on the charts again,  slowly returning to number 1 a month after the song was released, proving that idols too can achieve longevity on charts. As a group that is reaching their 4th anniversary, 4minute washed away all worries that they too would give in to the ‘5-year curse’ that many idol groups have fallen victim to.
However, 4minute will not settle here. 4minute will immediately jump into preparations for their new album after the promotions of “What’s Your Name?” They will make their comeback in July at the earliest and August at the latest, taking charge of the summer season. 2013, the year of 4minute, is not over yet.

HyunA Reveals That PSY Was Her Role Model 12 Years Ago Before “Gangnam Style”

Hyuna recently revealed that PSY had been her role model even before she met him.
On May 29, Hyuna shared on tvN‘s talk show “Baek Ji Yeon’s People Inside” that she was inspired to become a singer when she saw PSY’s incredible energy and presence on stage.
While talking about how she got the opportunity to appear on PSY’s “Gangnam Style” music video, she revealed, “When I was in 3rd grade, I saw PSY performing for the first time and was inspired to pursue my dream as a singer.”
When asked why she picked PSY as a role model, she replied, “I really liked his energy.”
She also went on to describe what it was like working with PSY, stating, “It was awkward at first. But he was always taking care of me on the side. ‘Gangnam Style’ really does have a great energy to it. I always thought the lyrics and dance were a lot of fun, but I never imagined that it would get as popular as it did.”
Netizens who saw the broadcast commented, “PSY and Hyuna are both pretty amazing”, “Hyuna’s ‘Horse Dance’ is sexy!” and “Wow, Hyuna was PSY’s fan since 12 years ago?”
